Educational Programs and Screenings

American Liver Foundation sponsors hepatitis B screening and vaccination programs, community and professional education as well as support programs. Read below to learn more or contact your ALF chapter to find out about programs in your community.

Screening and Testing Programs allow participants to learn whether they are at risk for hepatitis B or C infection and to get tested. Testing programs are provided in community settings and often cosponsored by other community organizations. Individuals who test positive are referred to local healthcare resources for follow-up.

Education Programs give people of various backgrounds an opportunity to learn about liver wellness or specific diseases. Different speaker events may target the general public, patients and family, or healthcare professionals. In the latter case, ALF provides accredited seminars and audio conferences for physicians, nurses and other professionals.

Support Programs serve patients and family members by providing information and emotional support. At a support group, people affected by liver disease can draw on each other for emotional help and information. Our buddy mentoring program connects individuals affected by hepatitis C to each other for one-on-one personalized support, whether by telephone, through the Internet, or in person.

Educational Outreach refers to any other formal or informal opportunity for ALF to raise awareness about liver disease. Street outreach involves distributing education materials and discussing liver health issues with interested passers-by. Oral, poster and roundtable presentations give ALF a chance to provide more in-depth information on liver disease and our own programs.
